Ajayi Supports Kaepernick
I was actually travelling Sunday and missed all the NFL pre-game National Anthem hoopla but my social media has been alive with opinions ever since.
Obviously social media can be a dangerous place to wallow as opinions rank from adamant against NFL players using the Anthem as a stage for protest, to those who champion the move.
What really got me was the on line picture of former Boise State running back Jay Ajayi wearing a shirt with the words #imwithkap across the chest. The Miami running back was showing his support for Colin Kaepernick the former San Francisco QB who started all this when he protested police brutality against minorities by kneeling during the National Anthem.
Who in their right mind would have a problem with Kaepernick's cause. Police brutality against anyone is not acceptable if it is truly unnecessary and excessive brutality. Sometimes police need to use force because there are bad people out there who would chose to hurt others, cops included.
Unlike Ajayi, I don't support Kaepernick's choice of protest. I didn't then and don't now. The flag represents the country that has allowed Jay Ajayi to parlay his talents to the highest levels of achievement and reward.
Ajayi tweeted "A powerful platform can inspire & influence change for good". Of that I agree but with the NFL such a powerful platform and the cause worthy of protest, why diminish the returns by disrespecting the emblem of freedom.
Certainly there is another way NFL players can stand united without creating the controversy that has buried the cause in emotional rubbage.
NFL viewing is down, attendance is down and tempers are high while a worthy cause has been lost in all the rhetoric.
Stand tall and play ball, I guarantee at this point, that's what NFL fans want more than anything.
