Boise State-Nevada Basketball Top 10 Showdown

All of a sudden the Mountain West basketball season has risen to a whole new level as for just the third time in 19 years and not since 2014,(San Diego State #5 beat BSU 67-65) Boise State will host a top 10 basketball opponent when 10th ranked Nevada comes to town tomorrow (Tuesday) 7p.m. tipoff.

This is the fourth straight year Boise State has jumped to a 3-0 conference start while the Wolfpack is 3-1. Overall Boise State is 8-8 and Nevada 16-1.

Boise State was dominant Saturday on the road against San Jose State, capturing the 87-64 win at The Event Center in San Jose, Calif. For the first time this season five Broncos were able to score 10 or more points, as Pat Dembley and Alex Hobbs both led the way with 18 points apiece, Justinian Jessup was right behind with 17 while Zach Haney and Derrick Alston tallied 11 points each.

Boise State was exceptional offensively in the second half, shooting 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the field and winning the latter 20 minutes 50-30. The Broncos led 37-34 at the break and opened the second half on a 21-4 run featuring 3-pointers by Alston, Jessup, Hobbs and Marcus Dickinson, and ultimately never looked back.

The Broncos knocked down a season-high 15 3-pointers with Hobbs and Dembley cashing in four each.

Nevada comes to town loaded with talent including reigning conference player of the year Caleb Martin who leads the Wolf Pack in scoring 19.1 ppg. Jordan Caroline is right behind Martin in scoring at 18.4 ppg while almost averaging a double-double with 9.8 rpg.

Nevada's only loss this season came at New Mexico (85-58, Jan. 5), while it has captured victories in its other 16 games.

The Wolf Pack lead the all-time series 44-27 and have won the last four games. The Broncos are 7-7 against Nevada since head coach Leon Rice took the helm in the 2010-11 season.

Through two weeks of conference play, Boise State ranks No. 1 in the league in scoring offense (81.3 ppg), scoring defense (61.0 ppg), scoring margin (+20.3 ppg), free throw percentage (81.8%) and 3-point defense (25.0%).
