Boise State today named  Gary Van Tol to manage the revived Broncos baseball program.

If the Van Tol name sounds familiar it should on two counts. Gary is the former manager of the Boise Hawks and his wife Christina is an associate athletic director for Boise State.

Gary Van Tol managed the Hawks of the Northwest League in 2013and 2014 before moving on to the Eugene Emeralds in 2015. He moved with the Chicago Cubs who switched their affiliation from Boise to Eugene.

Van Tol has spent the last two seasons coaching in the Cubs system.

Boise State recently dropped their wrestling program in favor of reviving baseball and BSU has plans to build an on campus baseball park and begin play in 2020.

Boise State officials say they expect baseball to earn it's own way unlike some other Olympic sports which depend on revenue from football and basketball and with that in mind, it means the baseball coach will also be a fund raiser and that's part of the job Van Tol can start t right now.
