Rumors are circulating that Boise State has selected a former NFL All-Pro and Pac-12 assistant, Ashley Ambrose as their defensive backs coach. The Idaho Statesman is reporting that Ambrose, coached under former BSU coach Dan Hawkins in 2008 as a defensive technical intern.

The New Orleans native coached cornerbacks at Texas State last year and defensive backs at The University of Idaho in 2014.

Ambrose was the Buffaloes’ receivers coach in 2009 and defensive backs coach in 2010. He was the secondary coach at California in 2011-12.
In the NFL Ambrose played 13 seasons for the Colts , Bengals, Falcons and Saints. He was the AFC Defensive Back of the Year in 1996 and an All-Pro selection with eight interceptions.

It is not unusual for Boise State to take several days to complete a background check before finalizing and announcing a hire.
