After playing in the State Championship game last season, Mountain View's Coach Benedick is looking to have another successful season. "Graduating a lot of seniors and losing some key positions, I am looking for to the returners to take responsibility and am also looking to the new players to step up and fill those roles vacated by graduation."

The Mavericks have reached the point as a program where the kids are expecting to be a competitive team each year.

Some of the players returning to the roster this season for the Mavericks are two year starter, Brett Carter (offensive lineman), All State Player, Trey Bell (running back/wide receiver). Returning on the defensive side of things are Kody Walker (defensive lineman) and Derek Gibson (linebacker).

But those returners will not be the only ones who want to make sure the Mavericks have another successful season. Nick Erlin (offensive lineman) and Joe Farris (wide receiver) are good leaders and "will lead by example and be verbal leaders if need be."

Benedick says conditioning has been going well for the Mavericks. "The numbers have increased and the kids have been working hard."

The Mavericks will open up their season against the Nampa High School Bulldogs. Benedick will prepare for the Bulldogs by preparing just like they would for anyone else. "Studying our opponent and making sure the kids are aware of what they are going up against. We will start preparing for Nampa as soon as we can."

According to Benedick, all the teams that have been consistently good are always teams to watch out for, but there are always a team or two that surprises.
