Former BSU Head Football coach Chris Petersen was introduced today as the new head coach of The University of Washington. In addressing the Seattle media, Petersen thanked the Boise Community, players and administration for all their support through the years. We now know that current Linebackers coach Bob Gregory and offensive line coach Chris Strausser have applied for the job from the current staff. Former BSU and current Arkansas State football coach Bryan Harsin and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter are scheduled to interview for the Boise State head job Monday.
Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports.com first reported that Harsin is at Boise State for an interview. Harsin is 7-5 in his first season at Arkansas State, which will play in the GoDaddy Bowl. He played quarterback at Capital High and Boise State (1995-99) and served on the Broncos’ coaching staff from 2002 to 2010. He was Chris Petersen’s offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2010. Koetter was 26-10 as the Broncos’ head coach from 1998 to 2000 and has hinted in the past that he would be interested in returning. He left to become the coach at Arizona State, where he went 40-34 with four bowl appearances in six seasons. He is in his second season as the Falcons’ coordinator.
Washington defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox also is a candidate for the job but it’s unclear if he has interviewed yet, the source said. Wilcox was the Broncos’ defensive coordinator from 2006 to 2009.
