Cougs Hire Kent
Washington State University will hold a press conference Wednesday to announce the hiring of Ernie Kent as men’s head basketball coach. Coug fans have much to be excited about. Kent is amongst the most successful coaches ever hired at Washington State. He has a career record of 325-254 that includes 6 NCAA tournament appearances and 2 outright PAC 10 conference championships. He led Oregon to the elite 8 in 2002 and 2007. Kent coached for 13 seasons at Oregon beginning in 1997 after being hired away from St. Mary’s by then University of Oregon athletic director Bill Moos. He was fired by Moos’ successor Mike Bellotti after consecutive 10th and 9th place finishes in the PAC 10 in 2009 and 2010. Kent has worked as a television analyst in the interim. He is widely praised as a good recruiter, a key to success in Pullman. The terms of Kent’s 5 year contract have yet to be released.
