He's controversial, he's popular, and now Bill Simmons is without a job.  Simmons the real first digital star is leaving ESPN, according to multiple published reports. The decision was announced by ESPN President John Skipper.

Did Simmons want too much money?  That's not the case from an interview Skipper gave to the New York Times: Skipper said that the differences between the company and Simmons were “about more than money,” although he would not offer details. He added: “We’ve had an excellent run with Bill, almost 15 years. It’s been good for us and good for him. It was a decision I had to make and he had to make to move forward.”

The platform Grantland will not be affected by Simmons departure.  The speculation now begins on where the popular/polarizing multi-platform journalist will land?  Perhaps will hear him on 630the Fan?
