The Idaho Vandals opened up the college football season at home holding on to beat Montana State 20-17 by depending on their running game in a crucial fourth quarter drive.  The Vandals rolled out to an early lead against the Bobcats and it looked like it could be a rout early on at the Kibbie Dome.  Montana State would chip away at lead eventually pulling within three of the Vandals.   The Bobcats had several opportunities to take the lead, but were denied by a stingy Idaho Defense.

Aaron  Duckworth rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the win.  It was the first 100 yard game of his career averaging over seven yards a carry on fourteen attempts.    Akeem Coleman and the defensive line pressured the Bobcats repeatedly recording sacks and pressures.

Coach Petrino said  "We found away to win that's the most important thing." He continued that the team needs to improve on execution.  "We dropped a couple balls and need pitch and catch."  The Vandal Coach offered his thoughts on preparing for next week's opponent the Washington Huskies.  "I think you build on the how the defense played in the second half. They played their butt off, it's the best defensive team I've seen since I've been here."
