There was a surprise leader in the slopestyle snowboarding event at the 2018 Winter games in Pyeongchang yesterday. Jessika Jenson of Rigby, Idaho was the first American down the course and her score put her atop the leader board for most of the first run. Fellow American Jamie Anderson was the odds on favorite and she went on to win the gold medal but what a thrill for Jenson to be leading the world, if only for a short time.

Jenson went on to finish fifth overall just missing to podium in her first Olympic games. Unlike the alpine skiing events which were postponed because of high winds the slopestyle snowboarding competition was reduced from three to two runs but still the snowboarders had to contend with gusty winds and single digit temperatures.

The USA dominated the slopestyle event winning both the men and women's competition. Redmond Gerard took gold in the men's slopestyle, the first American gold of the games.
