Former Boise State linebacker Joe Martarano will be back in town next Tuesday night as third baseman for the Eugene Emeralds of the NW League as they face the Boise Hawks. The game will be the home opener for the Hawks and the first of three against Eugene and Martarano.

Earlier this year the Fruitland native made what he called the most difficult decision of his life to leave Boise State football in favor of a possible baseball career.

Martarano has struggled between baseball and football ever since he was selected by the Cubs in 2014. However, his junior season on the football field was beset with injury and made Joe consider his profession future which seemed to be leaning towards baseball.

His return to Boise will make for a festive night next Tuesday as the Hawks open the new home season and Martarano returns home to play in front of family, friends and football fans.
