The college basketball season ended Saturday for Mountain View standout Destiny Slocum and her Maryland Terrapins in a 77-63 loss to Oregon in the NCAA women's Sweet 16. The season wasn't supposed to end that way for Slocum who became the talk of the country in women's basketball.

The true freshman point guard was having a dream season that caught the attention of fans back in December when Slocum had 23 points and almost led Maryland to a huge upset of Connecticut before losing 88-81. Still, Slocum had everyone talking and she put Maryland hoops on the map in Idaho.

As the luck of the draw would have it, Maryland was sent to the Bridgeport region, same as UCONN and everyone looked out the bracket to the elite 8 where for sure Maryland and Connecticut would rematch.

UCONN obliged with an 86-71 win over UCLA but Maryland, a heavy favorite, fell to Oregon and so the Ducks advance against UCONN, not Maryland. TV announcers said Maryland looked past Oregon and that may have well been the case. Even Slocum talked about a rematch with the Huskies before the Oregon game. Coaches always get blasted for saying take one game at a time but it's obvious they know something.

None the less what a freshman year for Destiny Slocum and how fun will it be to watch her progress during her career.
