Timberline High school in Boise has dipped into the 5A SIC ranks for its new head football coach announcing they have hired Ian Smart of Kuna.

Smart replaces Kirk Copeland who resigned after 7 seasons with Timberline. Smart has spent the last three years coaching the Caveman who qualified for the playoffs each of those seasons.

Smart, a former Boise State defensive end actually lives about five minutes from Timberline High and his wife is a dance coach there, so when the opportunity arose Smart said it was just too good to pass up.

Smart was 17-14 in his tenure with Kuna and help the team make the transition from 4A to 5A last season.

Smart, who is just 32 said the move was emotional and thanked Kuna for taking a shot on a young kid with little coaching experience.

Timberline was 2-7 each of the past two seasons but Smart see's a lot of growth in the area, including a building expansion for the school and says that tells him the future is bright in Southeast Boise..
