It's a tradition like none other...really it's one of a kind and despite being called "Stinky" it's really pretty sweet!

Tonight Mountain View will travel to Meridian for a boys basketball game and despite the fact Meridian is 10-1 and very much in the hunt for an SIC regular season crown, tonight will be all about the Randy Fout Memorial Spirit Award.

Randy Fout came up with the idea for the two Meridian rivals to once a year find a way to take school spirit to a whole new level and thus the "Stinky Sneaker" game idea was hatched.

The idea was to charge each student body with bringing it's best school spirit to the gymnasium on game night and their award for best spirit would be a "Stinky Sneaker." Somehow that thought resonated with both student bodies and the challenge was on!

When Randy Fout passed away, the "Stinky Sneaker" also become a memorial and the tradition grew to new heights. The gym at Meridian will be packed tonight and while the Warriors are a huge favorite to win the game, the spirit award is anyone's to win.

A couple years ago 105.5fm The Fan broadcast the Stinky Sneaker game and you would have thought it was for the national title. The signs, the cheers begin before tip and the loudest response comes at the final buzzer when the student body deemed to have brought the best spirit is crowned the "Stinky Sneaker" champion!

The varsity game begins about 7:30 pm but the spirit competition begins early with a sophomore and JV games starting at 4:30.
