Its a small world when your grandchildren tell you guess what, we got a job mowing Troy Merritt's lawn. You know they said, Troy Merritt the golf pro?

Oh, that Troy Merritt I responded, yep know him well. In 2015 I wasn't alone as Merritt was starting to be known as an up and comer in the golf world.

The former Boise state golfer who now lives in Meridian had moved up to 56th in the Fed Ex Cup Standings but that was 2015. Today Merritt is 154th and fighting to keep his tour card. The top 125 retain full status for next season.

Merritt had to qualify for this years U.S. Open through a special invite only qualifier. He'll tee off tomorrow morning at 11:41 mountain time at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.

Merritt started the year strong but then missed 11 of 16 cuts . Erin Hills is a long course with a par 72. Merritt has played a couple of practice rounds and says the fairways are wide, the fescue is tough to get escape and the greens are sloping and faster than they look.

Merritt says he is actually hitting the ball better than his results would indicate and his hopeful the solid hits will eventually score results.
