It came down to the very final seconds and the Vandal’s bid for a come back ended on a pass intercepted by Texas State at Bobcat Stadium Saturday night.
The second-half rally wasn’t quite enough as Texas State held on to win the Sun Belt Conference game 35-30.
“You look at this stat sheet and it makes you cry,” said coach Paul Petrino after the Vandals had their most productive offensive night of the season – 523 yards (347 passing, 176 rushing) and one of their best defensively with four turnovers.
“Kris Olugbode had his best day as a Vandal with 80 yards rushing on 13 carries, while Aaron Duckworth contributed another 63 on 12 carries. Elijhaa Penny had 11 carries for 41 as Idaho had its best rushing game of the season.
Matt Linehan mixed passes to eight players with Joshua McCain pulling in nine for 125. All told, Linehan completed 33 of 52 with two interceptions.
Up next for the Vandals is Georgia Southern on Saturday. We will have that game on The Fan starting at 3 pm.
