Rocky Mountain and Mountain View are already headed to the state 5A baseball tournament later this month but before they do so, there's a district title to be decided. The Grizzlies and Mavericks will collided in a best of three series starting tonight (Monday 5/7) 6 p.m. at Rocky Mountain. Both teams finished the regular season 20-4 but Rocky has the home field advantage and will host game 1 tonight and game 3 Wednesday if necessary. Game 2 will be at Mountain View Tuesday night. The format is interesting because while other 5A teams compete in district play for the right to advance to the state tournament, Rocky and Mountain View has spots guaranteed with no chance to be upset during a normal district tournament format. In short the top two district teams jump straight to the chase for a best of 3 series to decide the title and then onto state. In other district play tonight, Borah plays Capital and Meridian vs. Eagle, both games at Eagle. Meantime at Meridian, Kuna vs. Boise and Columbia takes on Timberline. The winners tonight qualify for state.
