5A Idaho Football Rankings Leave Questions

Does anybody really know who is number one in Idaho high school football? After just one week of the high school football season what have we learned? We know who won and who lost and that's about it! Still we clamor for rankings so rankings it is.....In 5A Highland of Pocatello has taken over the top spot. The Rams being number one makes sense, they were in last years 5A title game and they're always good. Rocky Mountain jumped into 2nd place after beating previously ranked #1 Mountain View 16-6. The Mavericks are now 3rd. Sports radio 630 The Fan broadcast the Rocky-Mountain View game live and to be honest neither team sparkled! The game was scoreless at halftime in part because of penalty after penalty on both sides. The Mavericks in fact saw a 38 yard touchdown run called back by a 5 yard penalty. Each team has it's own set of talented players and it seemed unfair to pit these two against one another to start the season. A few games in and I think we'd have seen a cleaner game, some solid football and a better indicator of which team is best. Coeur d'Alene and Madison complete the 5A top 5 but what about Capital and Borah? The Eagles and Lions both won big and I guarantee will be a factor in the playoff picture but neither cracked the top 5. Also, what about Eagle? The Mustang also won big and didn't get a single vote in this weeks poll. Thursday night Eagle plays Borah at Dona Larsen Park and then Friday here on 630 The Fan it'll be Capital at Mountain View. Those two games will tell us a whole lot more where those four teams rank among Idaho's 5A football elite.
