To say this has been an interesting and hard to predict college football season in the Gem state would be an understatement.

You would have predicted that the Idaho State Bengals and the College of Idaho Coyotes would be ranked in their respective football polls but not Boise State or for that matter, the Idaho Vandals.

Idaho State is ranked 24th this week in the FCS standings and the College of Idaho is also 24th but in the NAIA football poll.

The Bengals are 6-3 including a whipping of the Idaho Vandals in Pocatello. To be honest, when the season began I thought Idaho has a chance to shake up the Big Sky moving from FBS to FCS but that just hasn't materialized.

The College of Idaho began the year 0-5 but has since won 5 straight games and in doing so they've beaten four ranked teams to deserve the chance to be ranked themselves even at 5-5.

Boise State was the sure bet to be a top 25 team right now, good thing I didn't bet!

However, Boise State has a great chance to make some noise starting this Friday when 16th ranked Fresno State comes to town. That's the highest ranked opponent to play in Albertson's Stadium since Oregon played BSU in 2009, also ranked 16th.

In two weeks Boise State will get to host Utah State, currently ranked 14th. That's in two weeks of course and there's no way I'm talking about that game with the Bulldogs headed to the blue Friday night.

The Bronco's are a three point underdog, the first time since 2001 BSU has been an underdog at home in the regular season. The 2001 game was against Washington State.

Boise State won that game.
