This Thursday former Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien is expected to see significant playing time in the Denver Broncos exhibition game against the Arizona Cardinals as he tries to nail down the backup spot to Joe Flacco.

Rypien, who signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent, is getting his shot because the Broncos second round draft pick, Drew Lock is out indefinitely with an injury.

Rypien played enough in Saturdays exhibition game against the Rams to finally get a feel for the flow of the NFL game, at least that's what he told the Denver media.

Rypien is competing against Kevin Hogan for the backup job. Hogan had a better rating than Rypien in the Rams exhibition game Saturday but showed enough progress that Denver coach Vic Fangio told the media there is still a battle for the backup spot.

That battle will continue this Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Broncos host Arizona in their final preseason game.
