Derrick Alston: A Boise State First in 72-68 OT Win vs. BYU

The Boise State men's basketball team beat BYU 72-68 in overtime Wednesday night at Extra Mile arena and in the process 6-9 junior forward Derrick Alston made Bronco history.

Alston led Boise State with a double-double, 26 points and 11 rebounds and became the first Bronco to score 20 or more points in each of the first four games.

Only two other Boise State players, Robertson Bergersen in 1998 and Greg Bunn in 1971 had scored 20 or more in the first three games but neither made it four in a row.

Alston did it in grand fashion helping the Broncos overcome a slow start and a second half BYU run to improve to 2-2 on the year.

Alston is averaging just better than 25 points per game and that is the best in the Mountain West.

Special shout out to Justinian Jessup who was 1 for 9 shooting during regulation but in overtime hit a critical three pointer, stole the ball and raced down the court with a slam dunk finish and also canned a pair of free throws for 6-overtime points!

Jessup's trey with 2:26 to play in OT gave BSU a 65-64 lead and the Broncos never trailed again.

Boise State is now 2-2 and will play at Pacific Saturday.
