Former Boise State running back Doug Martin was a first round NFL draft pick in 2012. He was taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and now he has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2015 Martin rushed for 1,420 yards and that performance earned him a new five year contract worth nearly 36 million.

Then in 2016 Martin was hit with a four game suspension after testing positive for a performance enhancing drug and it's been downhill ever since.

Martin thank Tampa Bay coach, former Boise State and Idaho native Dirk Koetter for all his support and said he is looking forward to his next challenge.

Where football might take Martin next is anybody's guess but Martin attend a degree of financial security with his second Tampa Bay deal that may have led Martin down some iffy roads but can now buy him the time to map his future.
