The top two high school football teams in Idaho reside in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference (SIC) and they collide tonight in week two of the 2019 season.

Rocky Mountain, who opened the season last Thursday with a 35-15 win over Borah, has won 13 straight games, reign as the defending state 5A champions and is ranked No.1.

Mountain View also played last Thursday and beat Timberline 46-6 to open the season and is ranked No.2,

Tonight Mountain View will host Rocky Mountain, a one-two match up in the 5A SIC McDonald's game of the week on Sports radio 630 The Fan 7 pm kickoff.

What most folks don't realize is the preparation for this game began several weeks ago when the schedule was released. Mountain View was supposed to play at Timberline on Saturday of the opening week, two days after Rocky's Thursdays opener against Borah.

That would mean two less days for the Mavericks to prepare for Rocky Mountain and two less days for the Maverick players to recover!

Since neither Mountain View or Timberline really wanted to wait until Saturday to play,.the game was moved to Thursday even though that meant Timberline would give up home field advantage at Dona Larsen Park to play at Mountain View.

The decision to move the game up two days earlier put Mountain View on the same preparation footing as the Grizzlies for tonight's showdown.

Mountain View was 8-2 last year losing to Highland in the playoff semi finals, the same Highland team Rocky Mountain beat for the title.

The build up for tonight's game has been lost somewhat because Boise State is home hosting Marshall at the same time, 7pm tonight but the meaning opf the outcome hasn't been lost on either of the Mountain teams.

To reach the summit of high school football in November one doesn't necessarily have to win tonight's game but it sure doesn't hurt.

630 The Fan will be there for every play and you can listen on the free 630 The Fan app or at 630thefan.com.
