Payless was originally going to shut down 1,000 stores but that's been cut in half as they attempt to reorganize and figure out what the future holds for their brand.  The future most likely will include more online shopping for consumers.

In 2012 Payless was bought by private equity firms Golden Gate Capital and Blum Capital Partners as part of the breakup of publicly traded Collective Brands Inc.  This company employs around 22,000 people and has more than 4,000 stores in 30 countries.

The details of which stores that will be shut down have not been released yet.  Payless has four locations in the Treasure Valley that may be affected.
