Last weekend began with five Treasure Valley high school football teams competing in the semi finals of the playoffs. By the time the dust had settled just two were headed to championship games.

Those two are Kuna in 4A and Homedale in 3A and both are undefeated!

Kuna, now 12-0 and ranked no.1 in the state for most of the season will play Blackfoot Saturday 6pm in Poctaello's Holt Arena. The Kavemen spanked Middleton 70-34 while Blackfoot traveled across state to beat Nampa 35-14.

I've had the chance to broadcast both Kuna and Blackfoot games this year and this game Saturday will be about as even as it gets. The Broncos are 11-1 with an impressive running game. However, the Kavemen are more balanced and that could be the difference if Kuna can handle being on the road in Pocatello, pretty much a home game for Blackfoot.

In 3A 11-0 Homedale will face a 9-1 Sugar Salem squad at 3pm, also in Pocatello's Holt Arena. Homedale beat Timberlake 51-6 in the semi finals while Sugar Salem stopped Snake River 52-14.

For most of the season Sugar-Salem was ranked no.1 in the 3A polls despite their one loss and Homedale's unblemished record. Saturday we'll find out which one deserves to be no.1 they way these things should be determined, on the field.

Remember I said five teams from the Valley began the semi finals? The fifth was Rocky Mountain who was 11-0 and riding a 22 game win streak when Rigby thumped the Grizzlies 31-9 ending Rockies hope of defending their 5A state title.

Rigby will take a 9-1 record to Moscow to face 9-2 Coeur d'Alene in the Kibbie Dome.
