Boise State basketball coach Leon Rice experienced a career first Wednesday night in Colorado Springs. Rice was kicked out of a game!

There were just 19.3 seconds remaining in the first half against Air Force and Rice had had enough. The calls were not going the Broncos way and Rice wanted to display his dismay.

Technical number one just made Rice more animated and technical number two sent Rice to the showers. He's never been kicked out of a game before in 30 years of coaching and that might just give you an idea how unfair Rice felt the officials were being in making calls.

Once again Boise State outscored it's opponent in the second half but just like at San Diego State, it wasn't enough to overcome their first half inefficiencies. Air Force beat Boise State 85-78 despite four Broncos in double figures led by Abu Kijab's 20 points.

The telling statistic when all was said and done was 30 free throw attempts by Air Force to 13 for Boise State. The Falcons made 26 of 30, BSU 10 of 13. That's a difference of 16 points from the charity stripe in a 7 point game.

Usually the sign of a well officiated game can be seen in the number of fouls and free throws taken by each team. If they are close, then great job by the officials. Even in a highly physical game, trips to the free throw line should pretty much even out by the end of a game if everything is being called evenly.

Obviously Rice saw a difference scenario playing out, at least in the first half because he didn't get to see the second half.

Boise State returns home Saturday to host Utah State, who by the way also lost at Air Force earlier this month. Tip off Saturday at Extra Mile Arena is set for 8 pm.
