Team USA U19 women’s basketball team got off slow starts in a 73-57 win over Spain on Saturday in the opening game of the FIBA World Championships in Chekov, Russia.
Napheesa Collier, a University of Connecticut signee, scored 13 points and added 14 rebounds to get Team USA off and running in the international tournament.The 6-foot-1 forward added five assists and three steals.
Destiny Slocum from Mountain View High School in Meridian joined the USA women's U19 national basketball team just hours before the start of the World Championships in Russia.
Slocum, played 15 minutes, had two points on four shots. Team USA will next play China (1-0) at 12:15 p.m. Sunday in Chekov.
China defeated Egypt 73-60 Saturday.
