Mountain West Hoops Race Tightens

The 2017-18 Mountain West Conference basketball season has reached the halfway mark with Nevada and Boise State leading the way but as Casey Stengel famously said, it ain't over till it's over!

In Laramie Wednesday night it took two overtimes before it was over and Wyoming had upset #23 Nevada 104-103. A short time early Boise State had routed San Jose State 91-74 to close within one game of the Wolfpack.

Nevada 7-1, Boise State 7-2 paced the first half conference attack but it appears teams like San Diego State, Wyoming, Fresno State and New Mexico have found their bearings and are pushing forward.

Fresno and New Mexico are both 5-3 while with the win over Nevada, Wyoming is now 4-3.

Boise State is still looking at games at Utah State, at New Mexico and at San Diego State, nothing comforting about that schedule and while Nevada and Wyoming both have to come and play in Boise, both those games are expected to be a battle.

Six of the top seven teams in the Mountain West overall standings still have single digit losses with San Diego State at 11-7 the worst and Nevada at 18-3 the tops.

The next six weeks will be interesting and for Boise State it begins Saturday night at Air Force. The Falcons lost 71-49 at Utah State last night but are a different team at home.
