Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosell A Friendship that defined a turbulent time in America
Muhammad Ali died at the age of seventy-four last night in Arizona. He was known as the self-titled ‘The Greatest.’ He won an Olympic Gold Medal, several world titles, spoke out against the Vietnam War and was a civil rights activist. However, I’ll remember Ali for his on-camera friendship with Howard Cosell. They were a real life ‘odd couple. One the most famous athlete and the other a controversial sportscaster. Their relationship lasted for over sixteen years joking and promoting. But there was something more to it; they genuinely liked each other. While most of America was embroiled in the Civil Rights struggle, Ali, and Cosell, a black man and a white man, displayed a charm that appealed to all races.
Here is a compilation of their years together.
