The college women's basketball freshman of the year has announced that Oregon State is her future team of choice.

Destiny Slocum of Maryland via Mountain View High and Meridian, led Maryland to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA basketball tournament, was named Big 10 freshman of the year and then the NCAA Freshman of the year before shocking everyone by announcing she was leaving Maryland.

Despite her great season with the Terps, Slocum said she never felt as if she fit in saying the teams values off and on the field did not align with hers.

Oregon State finished the season 31-5, was a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament losing in the Sweet 16. The Beavers finished the year ranked #8.

Slocum announced she had narrowed her list of teams to three, UCLA, Arkansas and Oregon State. She said Corvallis just felt right.

Slocum will have to sit out this coming year but will have three years of eligibility remaining. She plans to use the coming year to improve her game and create the relationships with new teammates that will allow her to become a leader. Slocum says this is the year to adapt to her new team.

After her junior season at Mountain View Slocum committed to Washington, then de-committed and reopened the recruiting process. That's when Maryland stepped in and now the Slocum journey continues in Corvallis.

Slocum finished her freshman season averaging 11 points and 6 assists a game, her season highlights included 23pts against then #1 ranked UCONN a game Slocum almost won single handedly and a 75 foot buzzer beating bomb in the NCAA tournament that lefty everyone buzzing.
