Boise State could be down to two quarterbacks when they face New Mexico Thursday night as the status of Brett Rypien is unknown and Boise State coaches will only say Rypien will be evaluated each day.

Rypien was hit hard a couple of times during the Washington State game and was pulled from the contest after the second big hit. Rypien spent the second half in street clothes on the sidelines.

BSU has just thee scholarship quarterbacks and one of those is Chase Chord a redshirt freshman the Broncos are hoping they don't have to pull his redshirt.

The other is Montell Cozart the transfer from Kansas. Cozart has played well but also cost the Broncos a touchdown when an ill advised pass was intercepted against Washington State.

Because of the short turnaround with a game Thursday night Rypien doesn't have that extra day or two to recover. He doesn't appear to be on concussion protocol and might just be healing some bruises but coaches say they won't know Rypiens availability for sure until probably Thursday.

A season that began with questions everywhere but quarterback has taken a sudden turn and the story continues to unfold. The next chapter is schedule for Thursday at 6 p.m. on the Blue and ESPN.
