Friday and Saturday of this week the Idaho Steelheads will host the Utah Grizzlies in the Mountain Division of the ECHL. That makes perfect sense but what if I said Kansas City and Wichita collide in the Mountain Division of the ECHL.

Now that has a different ring to it but nonetheless is an accurate statement. If you haven't noticed, the Mountain Division of the ECHL is definitely regionally challenged.

Tulsa currently leads the division with Kansas City, Rapid City, Wichita and Allen, Texas also part of that division. The only true Mountain teams are Utah and Idaho.

I mean the East Conference, South Division and Central Division all make sense geographically, it's not until you move west into the so-called Mountain Division is there a "division of geography."

I understand, there are few true mountain cities capable of fielding an ECHL team but how about just changing the name of the division from Mountain to West.

In the overall scheme of life not a big deal but at least it would make more sense.

At least this weekend at Century Link arena we'll have a traditional Mountain Division showdown between the Grizzlies and Steelheads, now those are mountain names!

Utah is 13-3-3-1 while Idaho is 11-8-1-2 and separated by just five points in the statndings. Both games Friday and Saturday begin at 7:10 p.m.
