The Idaho State board of education announced today, University of Idaho President Chuck Staben will leave Moscow when his current contract is up in the spring of 2019.

Staben, the Vandals 18th President and the State Board came to a mutual agreement not to renew his current contract.

The decision means the State Board of Education is now searching for news presidents at both Boise State and Idaho. Bob Kustra announced his retirement last year and the search committee at BSU just went back to the drawing board after none of three initial finalists were selected.

Staben, who was openly looking to leave Idaho a year ago, has been in the middle of a controversial debate of how the university and specifically Athletic Director Rob Spear may have miss-handled sexual assault reports from female student athletes several years ago.

Spear has been on administrative leave since March when the Idaho Student governing body voted to ask for Spears resignation.

The decision by the State Board to not renew Staben's contract might well be an indication they've decided to clean administrative house and Spear will soon be replaced as well.

The State Board members thanked Staben for his service at Idaho where he has led the University since 2014.
