Sports radio 630 The Fan kicked off the high school football season Tuesday night with a one hour live high school football preview show. The program included the highlight of the night, a player wing eating contest!

Area high school players dove into their individual plate of 25 wings from Wingers Restaurant and Alehouse with five minutes to make them disappear.

When time was up Will McGahey of Skyview and Capital's Jack Vering had each downed 23 wings! It was an unexpected tie with both athletic departments receiving a $500 scholarship courtesy of Wingers!

The 630 the Fan event was highlighted on the Channel 2 and 7 news broadcasts and players and coaches left Wingers hoping 630 The Fan will make this a season opening tradition.

630 The Fan's Taco Bell game of the week broadcasts begin this Friday with Mountain View at Rocky Mountain. The Mavericks are ranked #1 and the Grizzlies #3 so this is quite the season opener indeed.

Join me and Desmond Banks for all the play by play starting at 7pm from Rocky Mountain. Remember to download the free 630 The Fan app so you can listen to our broadcasts all season no matter what game you might be enjoying.

FYI, the high school football season actually kicks off Thursday at 7pm with Boise and Centennial at Donna Larsen Park.
